About
342 Parramatta Rd where Bartex occupied from 1952-61.
Originally founded in 1952 by Hungarian immigrant Peter Bartok, Bartex specialised in women’s swimwear and baby blankets supplying David Jones Australia-wide from their factory at 342 Parramatta Rd. Petersham, NSW.
The original Bartex logo was created by furniture and graphic designer Susan Kozma-Orlay, whose work can be seen in the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.
Closing in 1961, Peter went on to co-found and operate Rowe St. Records in Sydney (1961-72), and founded the Richmond Fellowship of NSW in 1969, pioneering mental health care in Australia.
In 2021, grandson Anthony Bartok re-launched the Bartex name to produce bags and clothing featuring original artwork and designs by himself and other artists.
